Again thank you to all that left comments.
It seems the rainy season started late this year so we were lulled in to a false sense of security.
So the nice weeks in June when it only seemed to rain at night have been replaced with constant rain.
Would remind you of Ireland, when you get a soft day and it's only light rain and then the next day you get a downpour. Now it seems just like Ireland, do you think it will rain today ? probably ! Well it's not quite that bad, seems like we got the tail end of a storm which increased the wind and rainfall. Temperature has dropped a little which is nice but you still have sweat and now wet and mud.! The roads are a little more interesting, the potholes are clearly defined by pools of rain and mud you're just not sure how deep they are.
But the work goes on; rain, rain or storm. Stormy weather disrupted ferry sailings and we got to spend a day waiting on a ferry to take us back from Cebu to Negros. Waiting around the port we got to see some things you would rather not see, like the kids that are begging and then go sniffing glue. It's like as if they are invisible to those around, it is so sad. We have been given them money but we realise now what we should and will do in future is give them food.
On a lighter note:
Sometimes I joke with Theresa and say can you imagine trying to get up this steep mountain road in the winter? Caught her the first time. No need for winter tyres or snow chains here, mind you they might be useful in the mud.
We are enjoying all the different experiences, happy as a pig in muck or a Carabao cooling in a river
I got to speak at his baptism and sister Dunne said the closing prayer. When I asked him about his family he replied, "they said I was old enough to make my own decisions" He is in his sixties ! We gave him a copy of the bible in Cebuano and said this was for him to remember this day, George replied "with this book I will always remember you"
The older lady in the photo is Sophie she is 89 and loves to go out teaching with the sisters. she says "I want to read, read, read and learn, learn so I can share the gospel. In the picture on the right that's her heading out, this was the day we went to see George
Their journey is similar to the that which a Mullingar or Dundalk branch member make going to the Preston England Temple. First the journey to the ferry port then a two hour ferry crossing and another two hours coach ride to the Cebu Temple, more than likely with no air-con.
If you were wondering why we were walking down the road, it was a private road with no parking. Someone told me that one percent of the population owns all the land in the Philippines !!!
I've heard that term before, the one percent !
