One weekend on our way back from Cebu City we stopped over in Toledo to attend their District conference.
So we are having breakfast in Toledo Cebu looking across the sea at Negros when boom our Kanlaon volcano erupts sending steam and ash into the sky. It does this occasionally , fortunately it's just letting off a little steam and they tell us there is nothing to worry about !!!!! A quick call to see if our Canlaon elders were okay, they were fine and would let us know when the lava started flowing was their reply ! Ah nineteen year old, the joy of been young and fearless.
The pictures are a little grey, it's rainy season lots of grey sky and we are probably over 100 Km. away from the volcano.
Interestingly the City is Canlaon and the mountain is Kanlaon !
Talking about rainy days. We were up in Bonifacio visiting families with these two hard working sisters Olaguer and Lagarde . The sun is shining it's a beautiful day then the last family we are going to see they tell us we have to go out on the sea wall for a little way. So we're walking along the sea wall, no not a pier this is a sea barrier or breaker wall and in places it's crumbling. On one side you have the sea and on the other you have heaven knows what ! everything runs down to the sea. But it seems busy, school children hurrying along on their way home from school people passing where the wall would widen a little, using it like a regular pavement. Then the wind comes up and a storm comes in and the rain is torrential and we are too far gone to retreat. Battling the wind and rain trying to keep our balance ( difficult with someone hanging on to you, bless her little heart) we make it to the end of the wall and enter a field which at this stage is beginning to get nice and muddy, cross the field and weave our way back to the shoreline to the house where the family lived. They welcome us in and we sit creating poodles around us and look out at our shoes sitting outside the door filling with rain water. As we were leaving we asked if there was another way back to the road, YES there was BUT it would take over an hour through the fields, back to the wall and as you can see we laughed about it. At this stage the wind had died down and the rain stopped. We dropped the sisters back to their apartment they were going to change and go back out to work, you can't but admire them. We drove back to San Carlos in our wet clothes. Turn the air conditioning off I'm freezing, turn it on I'm too warm, we laughed again, the cold air on our wet clothes or the warm air from outside on, off, all the way back. We had had a good day, met some wonderful people and in spite of the ordeal on the wall of death we went to bed feeling good.
Genesis 1: 16-18 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night, He made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth. And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good.
